I’ve always been an avid reader. Up until maybe 10 years ago, I mostly read fiction. I loved getting lost in a good story, and reading fiction was my way to “escape” the real world sometimes. I’d always have a book in my purse to read on breaks at work, in the doctor’s office, or if I was waiting for a car repair. On weekends, I could sometimes get through a couple entire books by spending most of the time just reading. I’d start off in the living room with coffee and my book, by midday I’d be outside in the garden with tea and my book, and in the evening I’d head back inside and could be found with a cat on my lap and the lamp on, always with a book.
Now that I have my own business, there isn’t a lot of free time! I’m always thinking of ways to create value to my readers so I’m online a lot. If I’m not actually pet sitting, I might be scheduling or invoicing pet sitting customers. I can also as of late be found researching different ways to use the magical droplets that are essential oils to find ways to elevate my health and happiness naturally. So while my time is not as open to just read and lose myself in stories, I do still read often, but now I can more often than not be found with non-fiction!
Knowledge is power, and the more I learn, the more I want to learn. The internet is great to find quick answers to things, but having a lovely book to delve more deeply into a subject is so much more satisfying to me. I love having the weight of the book on my lap, or if it is on the desk, I love the feel of turning the pages, and thumbing through to see what is in it. I always have a pen and notebook nearby to take notes if the book is from the library. If it is my own book and one I know I will want to keep, I’ve actually started being able to highlight and mark it for future reference!
I’m working on compiling lists of some of the books that I have loved throughout my life to share them with you here. I’m sharing them as Amazon Links, but you may be able to find some, if not most of them at your local public library or bookstore. I even find lots of great books at the thrift stores I frequent and VERY discounted prices. In fact, this is my preferred way to build my own collections.
